A growing concern with teens and their parents is the seemingly increasing amount of violence exhibited by teens, both at home and at school.

There is no surprise that parents often don’t know how to help their teen keep from being a victim of violence, and keep from becoming violent themselves. Even more confusing is helping the teen know what things they can do to keep from being a victim or acting violent, and the consequences if they do.
Teen violence is the topic of the next Community Meeting sponsored by North Texas Youth Connection (formerly Grayson County Juvenile Alternatives). There will be an open dialogue about violence being witnessed by teens and their parents, tips on how to prevent and deter teen violence and keep your teen safe, and discussion of consequences experienced when a teen becomes violent by Juvenile Probation.
This free meeting will be held Tuesday, January 31, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Community Specialty Hospital Media Room, located at 1111 Gallagher in Sherman. The meeting is open to the public and reservations are not required.
North Texas Youth Connection, formerly Grayson County Juvenile Alternatives, provides temporary, voluntary emergency shelter to homeless, runaway and abused youth ages 10-17, counseling services for youth ages 0-17 and their families, and community outreach programs, including Universal Child Abuse Prevention Services, which are provided through community meetings, educational materials, referrals, counseling and groups, and a support system to the community at large to increase knowledge and awareness of child abuse and to promote positive parenting. For more information about this seminar or any North Texas Youth Connection program, visit www.ntxyouthconnection.org, or contact the office at (903) 893-4717, or the 24-hour crisis hotline at (800) 568-7776.
