Laurie Lawler, an amateur photographer, has been named Photographer of the Month for June by the Friends of Hagerman NWR. Lawler, who states that she likes to capture nature, wildlife and people in her photographs, has been taking pictures as a hobby since she was a young child.
As Photographer of the Month, Lawler will have a virtual album of twelve photos taken at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge featured on the Friends website, www.friendsofhagerman.com, for the month of June.Lawler, a Denison resident, says that she has had an interest in the wildlife at Hagerman since she was a little girl and her dad would take her to see the geese during migration. A member of the Friends of Hagerman Nature Photo Club, she is inspired by the beautiful sights that Hagerman refuge has to offer, and learning more every visit about the different kinds of birds and the wildlife as well as how to capture them in a photo. Lawler uses a Nikon D5000 camera and various lenses.
In addition to the Photographer of the Month program, Hagerman NWR and the Friends offer a variety of activities for photographers. The Nature Photo Club meets at the Refuge bimonthly for technical programs and photo sharing. Small group photo shoots are held twice yearly. Rules and entry information for the second annual photography contest are now available; the competition is open to any interested photographer.
