SHERMAN, TEXAS-The Austin College Department of Art and Art History is hosting the exhibit Paintings and Sculpture 1990-2005 by Denise M.A. Brown through December 14 in Dennis Gallery of Forster Art Complex. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

"I continue to find that making art is a mysterious and humbling process," Brown said. "I'm influenced by the most mundane and sometimes by the most radical. I guess on some level, I find them to be almost equal. Children's tales, history, television, economics, Shakespeare, science, religion, politics, advertising-all seem to be very telling to me.

"For me, they all share the same story of our history, and these are the tales of our motivations: lust, greed, love, survival, loyalty, weakness, hope, faithfulness, and determination, she continued. "I believe these reveal the baser laws of our human drama and these are the tales that interest me most."

Brown's work is represented by Craighead Green Gallery of Dallas.
