SHERMAN, TEXAS-Austin College's annual Service of Lessons and Carols will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, in Wynne Chapel. The event is free and all members of the campus and local community are invited to attend.

The Service of Lessons and Carols will include Hebrew and Christian scriptures, carols, anthems, a candle-lighting ceremony, and presentations by Austin College choirs, directed by Wayne Crannell, associate professor of music. College Chaplain John Williams will officiate at the service. A number of other students, staff, and faculty will participate in the readings, including freshman Lillie Hutton of The Woodlands, Texas; sophomore Zane Daniel of San Angelo, Texas; junior Risa Rylander of Dallas, Texas; and senior Cora Barraza of Dallas, Texas; Michael Deen, director of student life; Philip Barker, associate professor of political science; and Lisa Brown, associate professor of psychology.

Austin College is a leading national independent liberal arts college located north of Dallas in Sherman, Texas. Founded in 1849, making it the oldest institution of higher education in Texas operating under original charter and name, the college is related by covenant to the Presbyterian Church (USA). Recognized nationally for academic excellence in the areas of international education, pre-professional training, and leadership studies, Austin College is one of 40 schools profiled in Loren Pope's influential book Colleges That Change Lives.
