SHERMAN, TEXAS-Austin College faculty, students, and alumni will take to the stage for "An Evening with J.S. Bach with Friends," Saturday, October 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Wynne Chapel on the campus. They will perform Johann Sebastian Bach's Cantata No. 80, "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God," Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, and a new edition of Cantata No.55 for solo tenor. The performance is part of the annual Community Series supported by Austin College. For information or tickets, available for $15 or free with Austin College ID, call the Community Series office at 903.813.2037 or the Austin College Music Department at 903.813.2251.

This is the fourth Homecoming concert prepared and conducted by Ricky Duhaime, Austin College Mildred S. Mosher Professor of Music. Homecoming concerts, Duhaime said, "allow him to combine the talents of generations of alumni with current students, faculty, and professional colleagues to present truly unique concert experiences."

The performance is dedicated to the late Sara Bernice Moseley, who embraced Sherman's Community Series as a friend and supporter. Mrs. Moseley, who passed away this summer, was an active member of the Austin College and Sherman community for more than 60 years, coming to the area in 1953 when her husband, John D. Moseley, was named president of Austin College.

Anna Laura Page, an accomplished musician and composer and former first lady of Austin College, will be featured, playing the newly refurbished Aeolian-Skinner grand pipe organ in Wynne Chapel in the prelude to the cantata. Her husband, Oscar C. Page, was president of the College from 1994 to 2009. This fall marks the 50th anniversary of the installation of the organ, donated by Toddie Lee Wynne. The year also marks the 15th anniversary of donation of the Flemish double harpsichord that will be played in the concert and that was built by Austin College 1970 alumnus Gerald Serf of San Antonio, Texas.

Duhaime, current chair of the Austin College Music Department, will present his new edition of Cantata No. 55, performed by Austin College faculty member Wayne Crannell, tenor soloist. In addition, nine solo string parts along with harpsichord and bass will play the Brandenburg Concerto No. 3.

Also on the program is the Austin College A Cappella Choir, led by interim director Justin Duncan, visiting instructor in music and a 2008 Austin College graduate and former choir member. Director of choral music Wayne Crannell is on sabbatical this academic year.

Alumni participating in the performance will include Anne Anderson, a 1982 graduate from Houston, Texas; Kaitlin Hampton, a 2008 graduate from Byers, Texas; Nida Iqbal, a 2009 graduate from Dallas, Texas; Nicolas Timmerman, a 2011 graduate who lives in Sherman; Morgan Causey Waggoner, Austin College Class of 2002 of Gunter, Texas; and Paul Wells, a 1981 Austin College graduate from Pearland, Texas. Current Austin College student musicians, in addition to A Cappella Choir members, will be junior Rizwan Jagani of Plano, Texas; senior Annalise Kean of Arlington, Texas; and senior Edward Kim of Carrollton, Texas.

Austin College is a leading national, independent liberal arts college located north of Dallas in Sherman, Texas. Founded in 1849, making it the oldest institution of higher education in Texas operating under original charter and name, the College is related by covenant to the Presbyterian Church (USA). Recognized nationally for academic excellence in the areas of international education, pre-professional training, and leadership studies, Austin College is one of 40 schools profiled in Loren Pope's influential book Colleges That Change Lives.
