Sherman, TX - November 1, 2012 - Members of the Board of Directors of the Wilson N. Jones Community Foundation met with representatives of seven local 501(c)3 charities to award funding for requests which closely followed the guidelines of the mission of their foundation.
Chairman of the Board, Pete Kloppers, recognized all the charities who applied for grants, saying that "all requests were considered and all were found very worthy and deserving. The Allocations Committee had a very difficult task in making their recommendations to the Board for this funding consideration. The members of the Board met with a goal of making a real impact in our community, and we feel that by issuing these grants today we are accomplishing our goal of making a real impact in the community through the organizations whose projects we are helping fund today."
The Sherman Boys & Girls Club was awarded a grant to fund its Fitness and Nutrition Project. The Rehabilitation Center was awarded funding for rehabilitation services for the indigent.
The Pregnancy Care Center was granted funds for a new initiative to provide STD testing for men. Home Hospice of Grayson County was awarded two grants, one for "Camp Dragonfly" to support care for families who have lost loved ones, and one for Charity Hospice Care. The Children's Advocacy Center was awarded a grant for its Child Abuse Counseling Services. Women Rock was awarded a grant for its "Images of Hope" project, which provides free mammogram screening for women in the community.
Four Rivers Outreach was granted funding for its "Detoxification" project.
The Wilson N. Jones Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 public charity dedicated to promoting health, wellness and education in the community with special emphasis on access to healthcare for the indigent population. Its goal is to partner with the community to enhance access to healthcare and education for all. The Foundation supports innovative programs that address health, wellness and education in the community. It makes grants only to organizations that are classified as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
Priority consideration is given to (1) Projects not adequately served by existing community resources, (2) Projects which provide incentive for generating other funds and community resources and (3) Projects which facilitate cooperation and collaboration between organizations.
All requests for funding grants must be submitted through an Eligibility Form to assure that programs match the Foundation's funding priorities prior to submitting a grant application.
