SHERMAN, TEXAS-The Austin College theatre program will present Henrik Ibsen's When We Dead Awaken February 28 through March 2 at 7:30 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on March 2. Staged in the Beardsley Arena Theatre of Ida Green Communication Center, the play runs just over 90 minutes, with no intermission. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $8, but are free for individuals with a valid Austin College ID. The Friday performance will be followed by a brief after-show set by the Austin College Improv Troupe, at no additional cost.

Directed by Dr. Kirk Everist, associate professor of theatre at Austin College, the production is a new translation by Ibsen scholar Anna Jenson. "This provocative and passionate play tells the story of two pairs of lovers who suddenly find themselves re-examining their relationships and their pasts, in a study of glory, inspiration, and guilt, of the long-term effects of art, and the possibility of re-inventing a life," Everist said. Ibsen dubbed this play, his last, as "dramatic epilogue" to the prose plays that since have become the foundation of theatrical realism, Everist said. Ibsen's play was published in 1899.

The play's characters include famous sculptor Arnold Rubek, played by Matthew Ervin '13 of Austin, Texas; Rubek's restless wife, Maja, played by Missy Lyttle '13 of Austin, Texas; the disreputable hunter Ulfhejm, played by Cody Edwards '14 of Eastland, Texas; and the mysterious woman from Rubek's past, played by Lizzie Lincoln '14 of Round Rock, Texas. Cast as others in the characters' community are Harrison Wilkie '13 of Dallas, Texas; Amy Anderson '15 of Austin, Texas; Katherine Ailshire '15 of Sherman, Texas; and Julio Malave-Torres '15 of The Colony, Texas.

Student designers Jessica Shanks '13 of Cedar Park, Texas; Kaitlin Forsman '13 of Conroe, Texas; and Jessica Pehrson '14 of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, collaborate with Liz Banks, assistant professor of theatre, to take the audience into the artist's imagination.
