SHERMAN, TEXAS-Another session of rehearsal for the Austin College Concert Band is nearing. Percussion and wind musicians from the community, the Austin College student body and faculty, and Grayson College students are invited to audition for membership. Openings are available in most sections.

The group is a full concert band, doubling many parts. In this term-the 10th season-the band will focus on dance music, particularly Latin Dance.

The band will meet for its first rehearsal from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, in Craig Hall Room 114 on the Austin College campus, and will continue each Wednesday, 7 to 9 p.m., in Craig Hall. "I look forward to seeing new and familiar faces for the first practice," said director Bob Archer, adjunct instructor of music at the College.

The spring performance is scheduled for April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Wynne Chapel.

Performers wishing to audition should contact Daniel Dominick, chair of the Austin College Department of Music, at 903.813.2251 or ddominick@austincollege.edu.

The Concert Band is a joint effort of Austin College and Grayson College. Band members include Austin College and Grayson College students-music majors and non-music majors--Austin College faculty, area high school band directors, and talented community members. The band is open to those qualified players who wish to continue their love of music, Archer said.

Austin College is a leading national independent liberal arts college located north of Dallas in Sherman, Texas. Founded in 1849, making it the oldest institution of higher education in Texas operating under original charter and name, the college is related by covenant to the Presbyterian Church (USA). Recognized nationally for academic excellence in the areas of international education, pre-professional training, and leadership studies, Austin College is one of 40 schools profiled in Loren Pope's influential book Colleges That Change Lives.
