WASHINGTON, DC - The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is proud to announce the launch of the newly redesigned DAR Website. On average, more than 6,000 visitors a day access the DAR website for a variety of reasons such as searching for information on genealogical research, scholarships, visiting headquarters and DAR membership. The redesign incorporated many visual and technical enhancements to increase the user experience.

With a bright, fresh new visual design, users now have an expanded screen area to view content and can enjoy new visual imagery throughout the site. Many new features and functionality enhance the user experience including mega menus, a stationary header and advanced search capabilities for better navigation; content boxes throughout the site to highlight featured topics and quick links; and share icons for the user to easily email, print or share website content on various social media platforms.

Most notably, the new website has been created with a responsive design, meaning the site automatically adjusts to fit whatever device on which it is being accessed. For users who visit the DAR site on a smartphone or tablet, the site will automatically shrink from its full computer monitor view to an easier to use mobile size, still allowing for all the same access to the full website.

In addition to the visual changes to the site, the technical backend of the site was entirely rebuilt as well. The site is now maintained in a content management system called Drupal. This web management system is highly regarded as one of the best is used by many large for-profit companies, government and non-profit organizations.

The DAR is committed to continue to enhance and expand the website. DAR Website users are encouraged to explore the new site and complete a brief survey to provide feedback.

Support for the DAR Website redesign comes from member donations to the President General's Project.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, a worldwide service organization with nearly 3,000 chapters, is devoted to promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism. With more than 177,000 members, it has been one of the nation's most active service organizations since its founding in 1890. Commitment to volunteer service is a cornerstone of the organization and a highlight of the administration of President General Lynn Young. DAR members contributed to a combined 3.5 million community service hours in 2013 alone. The DAR provides financial support for scholarships, sponsor American history essay contests, fund schools for underserved children, and volunteer time to local programs such as literacy tutoring. Countless historic sites have been saved, refurbished and made available for public education programs through the efforts of DAR members. Members also contribute thousands of hours of volunteer time in the nation's VA hospitals each year as well as provide support and encouragement to active military personnel through various programs. The objectives of the DAR are historic preservation, education, and patriotism. To accomplish our goals, we have many committees doing work with these objectives in mind. Our chapter has activities that give financial support to DAR schools; promote literacy; encourage conservation; sponsor scholarships to local students; and promote genealogy preservation. We encourage Americanism, promote Constitution Week, foster good citizens, volunteer at veterans' hospitals, assist Junior membership and discuss women's issues.
