TxDOT SCHEDULES LOY LAKE BRIDGE CLOSURE,

SHERMAN - The Texas Department of Transportation will close Loy Lake Bridge over US Highway 75 beginning June 16 while construction crews reconstruct the approaches on Loy Lake Road to the existing and proposed bridge structures.
TxDOT crews also will rebuild the inside lane of the northbound US 75 frontage road. The closure should last approximately eight to 10 weeks. During that time, northbound traffic will continue on the frontage road approximately two miles, and use the next overpass to the north at Fallon Drive. Southbound traffic will continue south to US Hwy. 82, and U-turn to access the northbound lane.
The public can get a construction update on this project from 2 to 4 p.m. June 6 in front of Office Depot near Academy Sports, off of US Hwy. 75 and Loy Lake Road. TxDOT staff, project contractor Ragle Construction Inc., and City of Sherman staff will be on hand to answer questions.
"Loy Lake Bridge has met capacity and traffic often stalls across the bridge onto Loy Lake Road, " said Aaron Bloom, TxDOT area engineer based in Sherman. "We are widening the bridge to improve safety and relieve congestion. During this project, we will widen the existing roadway from two lanes to four through lanes with left-turn lanes."
TxDOT started construction on its Loy Lake project in May 2014. Construction should last about 12 months, at a cost of about $5.6 million, which is funded through a private-public partnership between the City of Sherman, United Commercial Realty and TxDOT.
Bloom said Loy Lake Bridge will be widened to have two additional through lanes and one left turn lane in each direction of travel. The City of Sherman will continue construction south of the intersection of Sarah Swamy Drive, which will become a four-lane, divided section of roadway. After construction is complete, drivers can expect a right turn lane from Sarah Swamy Drive onto Loy Lake Road with a traffic light at that intersection.
TxDOT will keep the public informed about road closures and detours through construction via media alerts and periodic public meetings, such as the June 6 "Meet and Greet." These updates will instruct drivers how to best move through construction zones as work progresses on this long-awaited community improvement project.
For more information, contact Bloom at 903.892.6529 or Aaron.Bloom@txdot.gov. For media inquiries, contact TxDOT Public Information Officer Tim McAlavy in the Paris district office at 903.737-9213 or Tim.McAlavy@txdot.gov.
