PARIS - Motorists who travel on US Highway 75 in the Sherman-Denison area should make special note of construction at the Loy Lake Road Bridge, beginning June 25. Weather permitting, the Texas Department of Transportation will close portions of US 75 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. June 25 and 26 to install bridge beams across main traffic lanes.
Motorists traveling on US 75 will be diverted onto frontage roads before reaching the Loy Lake Road intersection, and will rejoin main traffic lanes after passing the intersection. The June 25 closure will affect southbound traffic, while the June 26 closure will affect northbound traffic.
"Our contractor for the Loy Lake Road Bridge construction project will begin closing lanes and diverting traffic as early as 4 p.m. both days," said Aaron Bloom, TxDOT area engineer based in Sherman. "Full lane closures and traffic detours will be in place by 9 p.m. The bridge will be closed through the night, with traffic passing the intersection on frontage roads. By 6 a.m. we hope to have this phase of construction completed, detours removed and the main traffic lanes open again."
TxDOT started construction on its Loy Lake project in May 2014. Construction should last about 12 months, at a cost of about $5.6 million, which is funded through a private-public partnership between the City of Sherman, United Commercial Realty and TxDOT. The project will widen the existing roadway from two lanes to four through-lanes, and add left-turn lanes to improve safety and relieve congestion.
For more information, contact Aaron Bloom, TxDOT Area Engineer, 3905 Hwy. 75 South, Sherman, Texas 75090-0517, or call (903) 892-6259.
