PARIS - Motorists who travel on US Highway 75 in the Sherman-Denison area should make special note of construction at the Loy Lake Road Bridge on July 17. Weather permitting, the Texas Department of Transportation will close a portion of US 75 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. to install a bridge beam across southbound traffic lanes.

Motorists traveling southbound on US 75 will be diverted onto the frontage road before reaching the Loy Lake Road intersection, and will rejoin main traffic lanes after passing the intersection.

"Our contractor for the Loy Lake Road Bridge construction project will begin closing lanes and diverting traffic as early as 4 p.m.," said Aaron Bloom, TxDOT area engineer based in Sherman. "Southbound lane closures and traffic detours will be in place by 9 p.m. The bridge will be closed through the night, with traffic passing the intersection on the frontage road. We hope to have this phase of construction completed, detours removed and southbound traffic lanes open again by 6 a.m. on June 18."

TxDOT started construction on its Loy Lake project in May 2014. Construction should last about 12 months, at a cost of about $5.6 million, which is funded through a private-public partnership between the City of Sherman, United Commercial Realty and TxDOT. The project will widen the existing roadway from two lanes to four through-lanes, and add left-turn lanes to improve safety and relieve congestion.
