<![CDATA[Although July was a fabulous month striper fishing Lake Texoma, the first week of August has been just as good. Lake Texoma water temp is 86-88 degrees and lake elevation is 617.31. We're still fishing live bait (gizzard shad) and mainly fishing 65-80 ft of water. The morning feed has been incredible the majority of stripers being caught have been our 20" fish and over. This is the time of year you definitely need to carry a bump board or some type of measuring device as allot of overs are being caught. Remember the Lake Texoma striper limit is 10 per day only 2 of the 10 can be over 20". I have heard of some topwater action early but have yet to see large schools working the surface. So come out and try some hot striper fishing action on beautiful Lake Texoma.]]>

<![CDATA[In recent weeks I have written about the interim committee charges for the 32 standing committees. Each committee meets during the interim in order to hear testimony regarding its charges. Recently, the House Committee on Culture, Recreation, and Tourism, of which I am a member, met in Austin to hear from the state agencies it oversees: Texas Parks and Wildlife; the State Library and Archives Commission; and the State Preservation Board.
Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) gave testimony to the committee on its State Wildlife Action Plan. These federally-mandated plans are created to assess the conservation needs of places and species throughout the state. Included in the testimony was information on the threat of invasive species in Texas, in particular the zebra mussel, and how the department is working to combat these problems. As it has been reported, zebra mussels have infested many waterways across the United States. These mussels have only been confirmed in one p]]>

<![CDATA[Whether it is a lack of threadfin shad, zebra muscles, lake elevation, climate, or all of the above, one thing is for sure, the fishing has never been this good this late in the summer. Don't get me wrong, summer fishing can be great and we normally catch lots of big fish but this year is definitely and exception because we're still catching fish like it is spring except they are all over 20". Nearly every trip the past few weeks has been the same, we are catching tons of fish and having to catch 2-3 times our limit just to get enough fish under 20". As mentioned before, July is one of my best months for big fish and my customers were not let down this year. We brought in fish at least 6-8 pounds on nearly every trip with fish in the 10-12 pound range every 2-3 trips.

Monday the 2nd was my first trip in August and the fishing showed no signs of slowing down, in fact it seemed to be better if that is even possible. It took me 2 anchors to find them but when I did, it was i]]>

<![CDATA[Lake Texoma striper fishing thru this first part of July continues to hold up. Limits of stripers are being caught in the 60-75 ft of water using gizzard shad. Were mainly fishing the river channel ledges and although you may not mark the stripers solid, you can set up on the scattered stripers and get them going. This past week we are seeing alot more of the overs ( 20 inches plus ) and some solid 18-19" box fish. I have had a couple of really good slab fishing days mixed in with some bad ones so until I see some changes I'm back to baitfishing .

I haven't even tried topwater bait fishing this past couple of weeks. Lake Texoma water temp is 85-88 degrees and lake elevation is 619.46. With the hot summer days we are seeing alot of boating traffic so be extremely careful and courteous to you fellow boaters and enjoy your day on Beautiful Lake Texoma ]]>

Denison - This Sunday, Jun 13, the people of Red River Unitarian Universalist Church will listen to Mr. George Loenberger, a retired high school chemistry teacher who has, for ten years, been an astronomy instructor at Northeast Texas Community College near Mt. Pleasant.

His remarks "UU Stars: Astronomy from a Unitarian Universalist Viewpoint" will be a intriguing, lighthearted, multi-media look at our Universe, the planets, our Moon, several stars, star clusters and constellations to see which might be used as the best symbol to represent who Unitarian Universalists are. Some speculation as to "the reason for it all" may be provided along the way. A current star map will be given out should anyone wish to explore our beautiful night sky on their own.

<![CDATA[May has certainly lived up to its reputation as being one of the best months to come fishing on Texoma. Right now the fishing is as good as it gets and it is not showing any signs of slowing down. I've been fishing every day and many times twice a day for several weeks now with limits caught on every trip with the exception of one where we had to come in 4 fish shy after having to throw back 20-30 fish over 20 inches. Most days we are catching our limit within the first hour and spending the rest of the time playing catch and release or catfishing at the dock. We are starting to catch a lot of big fish and I'm bringing an 8-12 pound fish in the boat on just about every trip. Needless to say, IT'S ON!

The fish are holding on the river ledges in 30-60 ft. and they are also starting to move out to deep water structure as well. It is not important to mark lots of fish. Just set anchor over the ledge and drop down some live bait or fresh cut bait at the depth you marked the f]]>

<![CDATA[In years past, May has been one of the best months to fish for Lake Texoma stripers and this year is no exception. Its really hard to describe just how good the fishing is. I can't keep up with the action because my customers are catching fish faster than I can take them off the hook and get them baited back out. With just 2 people I can get a pretty good rhythm and keep them going, but with 6 people it becomes more like an assembly line and things can get a little chaotic with me netting fish, taking them off the hook and baiting the hooks back out as fast as I can move. With all of this going on, I'm keeping track of 2 numbers in my head of how many fish we throw in the box and how many of those fish are over 20". If the bite stays full throttle and we can develop a good rhythm, it will only take 30-45 minutes to put 60 fish in the boat. With so much time left in the trip my customers have several options of what they want to do with the rest of their trip. If I think there ar]]>

<![CDATA[May is quite possibly the best month of the year to striper fish here on Lake Texoma. We are catching them literally as fast as you can drop a bait down. After we get them going, if you wait longer than a minute without getting a bite, then it is time to check your bait because you probably got robbed on the way down. Most all of the fish we have caught the past few days were caught using live bait fishing on anchor in 30-40 ft. of water over river ledges. My average size has improved considerably the past week with lots of overs in the 5-6 pound range with the occasional 8-10 pounder mixed in. It is not important to mark many fish, just beat the water and cut up some chum over the side of the boat and in anywhere between 0-20 minutes you will start catching fish. If it doesn't happen within 20 minutes, its time to move and try it again.

Friday morning was overcast and we had our south wind back. It looked like perfect conditions for top water so that's how we started the]]>

Each congregant brings a flower to be used in the service and leaves their flowers on the altar as they enter the sanctuary. Towards the end of the service, everyone comes forward and choose a flower different from the one they brought.

The Flower Communion was initiated - in 1923 - by Rev. Norbert Čapek, the founder of the Unitarian Church in Czechoslovakia. He saw the need to unite the diverse congregants of his church, from varying Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish backgrounds, without alienating those who had left these traditions. For this reason, he rejected the Eucharist. The Flower Communion instead borrows from the universal beauty of nature and the beauty and diversity of flowers is seen as symbolic of the beauty and diversity of life.

<![CDATA[Lake Texoma water temp is 64-70 degrees and lake elevation is 614.48 feet above sea level. The first part of April, Lake Texoma striper fishing has seen steady improvement. We're still using live bait drift fishing the 15-25 ft depth. The size of the fish has improved from the smaller males to the 16-19" good keepers and your over 20" stripers as well. Just about everywhere I've fished I am finding alot of stripers holding on the flats in 20 ft and less water.

Although we are seeing a good number of healthy stripers we are also seeing some on the skinny side due to our bait situation at Lake Texoma. Due to the colder winter we had it is estimated we lost 50% of our threadfin shad population. Therefore Texas Parks and Wildlife has taken measures to restock the threadfin shad. On Tuesday the 13th, 2000 threadfin shad were brought from Lake Arlington and released into Lake Texoma.

It didn't stop raining all weekend long and we were catching fish hand over fist the whole time. We even experienced the first topwater bite of the year and brought in some big fish on topwater. Lake Texoma water temperature was reaching into the mid to upper 60's but this weather has dropped it back down a few marks. The elevation is just a little below normal at 614 and most likely rising after this weekend. The main food source for the striper, the threadfin shad, have suffered a severe die off this past winter due to the extreme cold temperatures. The cast is a mixture of new faces on the Finley stage and a balance of tale]]>
