Glenn Melancon Announces for US Congress
Article
“It’s time for a change. We’ve got to start looking out for each other,” will be theme sounded by Glenn Melancon as he announces his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for District 4 in the United States House of Representatives. Melancon’s formal announcement will come at a press conference to be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 20 at Democratic Campaign Headquarters at 323 W. Lamar in Sherman. At 6:00 p.m. he will repeat his announcement at a reception that will also be held at campaign headquarters. Refreshments will be served. Melancon, who earned a Ph.D. in history at Louisiana State University, teaches history at Southeast Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma. His wife, Jackie, is a public school counselor in Denison. They have two sons, Christopher and Alexandre, who attend school in Sherman, where the family has lived since 1995. Melancon is active in community affairs. In addition to his work with the Democratic Party, he served as Cubmaster and Committee Chair for Pack 9 at Wakefield Elementary School in Sherman. He is part of the adult education team at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sherman. “American voters face an important choice next year,” Melancon said. “At a time when Texas families are struggling to pay their bills, cope with rising health care costs and pay soaring energy bills, the current Republican Congress is considering ways to deny even more Texans access to adequate health care and to ship American jobs overseas. Voters must demand a better world for themselves, their neighbors and their children. It truly is time for a change."
