The Wellness Revolution!
Article
When you hear the word revolution what do you think of? Do you know what the word really means? A revolution is defined as a drastic and far-reaching change in ways of thinking and behaving and we are in the beginning of one right now all across America. It’s called the Wellness Revolution! Let me explain. Think about a bottle of spring water and a bottle of vodka. Can you picture them? Let’s compare them. They are both clear, colorless liquids. Neither of them have an odor. In identical bottles you would be hard pressed to tell them apart right. Now in contrast we all know that if you drink a bottle of water that you will feel almost no difference afterward. Even after several bottles of water, no change. Now if you were to drink that bottle of vodka we were talking about you would definitely feel different afterwards! You may feel like your dancing skills or sense of humor was wildly improved. You may feel all the stress of your life start to melt away and a warm and happy mood take its place. So let’s review. One makes you feel different almost instantly and the other gives you no change. However, if you were asked which one of these is healthier for you everyone (hopefully) would respond water. We all know that water is essential to cellular health and that the long term health benefits of drinking water are numerous. We also know that while vodka may give you a pleasant feeling for a short time the negative effect after that is dreadful! We know that long term consumption of alcohol is quite a hazard to your health including the demise of your liver. So why this illustration? Do you remember when there was no such thing as bottled water? When people thought paying a dollar for a bottle of water was crazy when you could get a soda for fifty cents? You see, we thought it was crazy until we learned of the health benefits drinking water provides and now its everywhere. How the Wellness Revolution compares In the last several years everyone has wanted a quick fix to all their health problems and prescription medication was proclaimed the answer. A hundred different drugs for every different symptom. And so it has become that we have created an entire society dependent on medication. Do you think that fifty years ago the number one questions in seniors minds was how they were going to pay for all their prescriptions? While we staunchly teach our children that drugs are bad and that there are better ways to deal with their problems however at the first sign of cough or sniffle, or behavioral problem we fill them full of prescription drugs. However, Americans are now finding that the quick fix offered by pharmaceutical “wonder pills” is having detrimental long term effects. Even though we have had breakthrough advances in medicine we are still as sick as we have ever been. In fact, in a study done by the World Health Organization the United States ranked 39th in healthcare of 191 countries studied. 39th!!! People are beginning to question the methods used in their healthcare and taking a more proactive approach. The interest in vitamins, supplements, organic foods, exercise, fitness and holistic and natural healthcare are surging. This is being deemed the Wellness Revolution and the exciting thing is it is just beginning. As a doctor of chiropractic I can see these changes daily amongst our patients who have decided to take the next step to health and wellness. That’s right, not to alleviate back pain; not to stop headaches, but to enhance their health. Let me explain. For quite sometime chiropractors were assumed to be for those with “bad backs” however, as the chiropractic messages spreads people are beginning to understand that chiropractic has very little to do with back pain and everything to do with a healthy nervous system. Sure we have patients come to our clinic with back pain, and allergies, headaches, asthma, migraines, bedwetting, ear infections, digestive problems, etc. and most all get great relief from these conditions but the overall improvement in total health is what makes chiropractic truly priceless. The Chiropractic Message Chiropractic has been around for over a hundred years and changed and saved the lives of millions. Chiropractic is based on the principle that each and every human body attains a God-given potential to heal its self; an innate intelligence to regulate each and every cell in the body. All this is under control of the nervous system (the brain, spinal cord, and nerves) which is known as the master system. Whenever there is a spinal misalignment known as a subluxation it can cause interference to this system in the form of nerve pressure or irritation. As a chiropractor my focus is to detect and correct these spinal misalignments to allow your body its best ability to heal and regulate itself. It’s that simple! There is no hocus pocus or voodoo. Just the scientific proven fact that when a person is subluxated their nervous systems can’t operate at 100%, thus making them susceptible to a number of different health concerns. We are delighted to see the number of families turning from “sick-care” to actual healthcare and taking a proactive rather than reactive approach to health and wellness. It is our mission to educate as many as possible about the benefits of a chiropractic lifestyle and supply the community with the highest level of chiropractic care possible.
