Children are invited to participate in the Summer Theatricks Workshop program, scheduled to run July 17 to 21, and July 24 to 28. “I am already getting quite a few registrations, and want folks to know about the program before the classes are filled,” says Webster Crocker, Theatricks director. The workshops introduce children to theater arts by helping them improve skills in concentration, observation, imagination, creativity, and body movement. “Probably the biggest benefit is building self confidence,” says Crocker. Since 1985, Theatricks has offered drama workshops for children, using imagination to enhance learning with fun. Classes are held at the Honey McGee Playhouse in Sherman, and classes are divided by age groups (based on grade level this coming fall) and meet every day for a week. The week of July 17-21, kindergarten children meet from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., and 1st and 2nd grades meet from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. The next week of July 24 through 28, 3rd and 4th grades meet from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. and the 5th through 8th grades meet from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Register today to receive the discounted “early bird” tuition of $60.00 per child. Tuition goes up to $70 on the first day of class. If unable to schedule your young daydreamer in this confidence-building workshop, don’t despair: watch for announcements about the fall workshop later this year. Ask about the Elizabeth Halsell Russell Scholarship Fund, which offers scholarships to pay half of a student’s Theatricks workshop tuition cost.
