Harvey’ to begin new season for Sherman Community Players The 1940s comedy Harvey begins the new season for the Sherman Community Players. Set to begin in October, Harvey will star motion picture actor and veteran SCP performer, Norman Bennett, playing the role made famous by the late Jimmy Stewart. Harvey is the story of Elwood P. Dowd and his best friend, Harvey, a six-foot, white rabbit only he can see. The Christmas season will bring the sequel to Smoke on the Mountain, one of SCP’s biggest hits. The Sanders Family Christmas will bring back the original cast from Smoke on the Mountain. The group will be visiting the on-stage Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, entertaining with Christmas songs, vintage hymns and hilarious yuletide stories. In February, the SCP stage will house Agathe Christie’s The Mousetrap. An assortment of colorful and suspicious characters are snowbound in a ski lodge. When bodies start piling up, a detective on skis arrives to sort out the mystery. Barefoot in the Park will be April’s SCP offering. As Neil Simon’s first hit, the comedy tells the story of a young lawyer and his new bride as they return from their honeymoon and life’s obstacles threaten their wedded bliss. The season will end with the musical comedy South Pacific. Set in an island paradise during World War II, the show offers memorable musical classics such as Some Enchanted Evening, Bali Ha’i and Younger Than Springtime Season memberships for all five shows are $50 for adults, $45 for senior citizens, $25 for students and $175 for a family. Season ticket holders have advanced, reserve seating and enjoy a discount over regular box office ticket prices. Memberships can be purchased by calling the SCP business office at 903-893-8525.
