The Texoma Woodcarvers Guild recent Show & Sale, held in September at Sherman Arts Festival, produced a crop of ribbons for participants. Beverly Martin, Van Alstyne, received “Best of Show” for her scene carved on an antler; her husband, Ernest Martin, won the Judge’s Choice Award for a chip carved box. Sherman Mayor Bill Magers presented the Mayor’s Choice award to Jerry Thompson, of Sherman. Wanda Reichert, Howe resident and club president, won the People’s Choice award with her carved fish. Among the first place winners in the more than twenty categories were Ron Anderson, for Realistic Human, David Carroll, Denison, Realistic Animal, and Cal Stewart, McKinney, Realistic Bird. In addition, the TWG held a drawing for the 2006 Nativity Scene, a fundraiser with the proceeds, nearly $1800, going to Home Hospice of Grayson, Cooke and Fannin Counties. The Guild meets the second and last Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Sherman Senior Center, 1550 N. Broughton. Interested persons are welcome to attend.
