This is a beautiful book that makes telling a young child about heaven and what happens there. Randy Alcorn has written a sweet story of a young boy, Jake, who goes for his annual two-week visit to visit his grandfather lovingly known as “Papa.” The visit this time is a sad one and one that Jake’s parents are a little fearful of for him because his grandmother has recently died. They don’t know how he or “Papa” will handle this situation. Mr. Alcorn has masterfully used the grandfather’s stories of heaven to reassure Jake what a wonderful place heaven is and, best of all, if we believe in God and ask Him to come into our hearts, we cannot be afraid when we hear of someone who has died, like Grandmother. So many stories are woven into the two-week visit, such as having our regular bodies – except they will not be old or sick or hurting. “Papa” tells Jake that in the Resurrection our souls will be reunited with out new bodies and we will be able to eat and sing and dance and play, but most of all we will be able to worship God. The best part of heaven will be when Jake will be able to run and play with Jesus. He tells of the loss of heaven when Jesus came to earth to be born as a humble human being. The love of God is interwoven all through the book making it a little easier for Jake and Papa to bear the loss of Grandmother. “Tell Me About Heaven” is a book you will want to keep out on your coffee table so it can be regularly read to any of the children in our family. The adults will like it, too.
