SHERMAN, TEXAS — Business executive Todd Maclin of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. will deliver the first lecture in Austin College’s new Williams Executive-in-Residence Series, speaking at 11 a.m. on Sept. 20 in Hoxie Thompson Auditorium of Sherman Hall. The series is designed to bring leading business executives to campus or other venues to speak about their practical life experiences in business, personal stories regarding their paths to success, and lessons learned along the way. The annual sessions will be combined with an alumni-student gathering to also enhance mentoring and networking opportunities within the Austin College community.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
The Speaker:
Todd Maclin is the chief executive officer of the Commercial Bank at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. and serves as a member of the firm's Operating and Executive Committees. J.P. Morgan Chase is one of the world's largest financial institutions, and its Commercial Bank franchise, collectively consisting of five business units, is the second largest in the United States with a presence in 17 markets and more than 25,000 customers.
Prior to leading the Commercial Banking organization, Maclin ran the National Middle Market banking group at JPMorgan Chase and served as chairman and chief executive officer of the Texas Region. He also is a member of the J.P. Morgan Chase Foundation Board. Earlier in his career, Maclin held a progressive series of management positions at J. P. Morgan Chase and its predecessors -- Chemical Bank and Texas Commerce Bank. He joined the organization in 1980.
In fall 2007, Archon Group Europe chief executive officer Brian Ainsworth, Austin College Class of 1985, presented a similarly focused lecture highlighting living and working abroad.
The Williams Executive-in-Residence Series
The new series is funded by gifts from Todd and Abby Williams of Dallas. Todd Williams is a 1982 summa cum laude graduate of Austin College who earned an M.B.A. (with distinction) from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. A partner with Goldman, Sachs & Co., Todd and his wife Abby are very involved in mentoring and creating a number of ways for students to broaden their horizons and learn about opportunities and career paths often not understood. “I was a tremendous beneficiary of professors and alumni mentors telling me about doors that I could open when I didn't even know a door was there,” Todd said, “and its our sincere goal to help provide this same benefit for others at the College."
