Durant’s Downtown Holiday Set for December 1
Article
With the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season upon us, imagine what it would be like to have all your presents purchased, wrapped, and ready to go under the tree. Just think how you could relax and enjoy the parties, programs celebrating the holiday, and being with your family. The businesses in Downtown Durant are ready to help you do just that. On Saturday, December 1, the fourth annual Downtown Holiday will feature a special Oklahoma Centennial twist. With strolling activities for the entire family, shoppers will experience the sights, smells, and sounds of the season. A special ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. to dedicate Durant’s Centennial clock. It will be located on Market Square, the site of Durant’s Centennial project. Everyone is encouraged to join the fun on this historic occasion. The ceremony will be followed by a day of entertainment and activities for the kids. Santa will be making an appearance on Market Square and will be available for pictures with the kids for only $5. Schools and churches will be providing carolers, bell choirs, and live nativity scenes. A climbing wall and other activities are planned. Shopping options are plentiful this time of year, and Downtown Durant offers a hometown shopping experience. Many businesses will be holding open houses and have in-store specials. Oklahoma authors Vivian Gilbert Zabel and Doc Gator will be on hand at one business, and another will celebrate 30 years in business. Others are hosting a live radio remote and collecting canned goods for Families Feeding Families. Most provide free gift wrapping and customer service that can’t be beat. Durant Main Street and the businesses are working together to make your Christmas season enjoyable and rewarding throughout the holidays. The 11th annual $2000 Shopping Spree Giveaway Drawing will be held on Thursday, December 13, at 7:00 p.m. in the First Texoma National Bank Parking Garage at 4th & Main in Downtown Durant. You must be present to win on the 13th, but it is not necessary for the weekly drawings. Weekly drawings will feature a three-night stay at the Las Vegas Hilton and will be given away. Along with doubling your chances, carolers will be Downtown each Thursday night from Thanksgiving until the drawing to encourage shopping. Businesses stay open until 7 p.m. Entries for the drawing are distributed by participating businesses with merchandise ranging from tires to jewelry, from salons to appliances, and from lumber and hardware to antiques and gifts. Each $10 purchase qualifies the buyer to receive one ticket for the shopping spree. Triple tickets will be offered on Saturday, December 1, and double tickets will be given on Thursday nights from 4-7 p.m. Historic Downtown walking tours will be provided in the morning, and the Three Valley Museum will be open in the afternoon. Historic postcards are available through Durant Main Street as are magnolia postcards and magnets. For the perfect Christmas gift, Durantopoly features local businesses, volunteers, and activities.
