Gift Yourself with a Healthy Brain
Article
In this season of Holy Days, most excel at giving to others. This is a challenge for giving to yourself…giving the gift of brain health. Most of us are accustomed to think in terms of aerobic exercise and lowering cholesterol for heart health. Getting calcium into the system for bone health is a given. We do the regular dental visits for healthy teeth and gums. Did you know there are also things each of us can do to help maintain a healthy brain? Those in the Texoma Region have an opportunity to learn about brain health through an upcoming Maintain Your Brain workshop. This is a special one-hour program, offered through the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. The workshop includes extensive printed materials, a pedometer for tracking steps, and a professional presentation of information about brain health maintenance, all developed by the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. The mission of the Association is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. The Alzheimer’s Association has a vision of a world without Alzheimer’s disease. Donations to the organization support the mission and advance the vision of the Association. On Tuesday, January 15, 2008, the Alzheimer’s Association will offer their Maintain Your Brain workshop from noon to 1pm in the Board Room at North Texas Medical Center - Gainesville, TX. As a holiday gift, the workshop fee is only $5 for the cost of take home materials. Dianna Niemann-Harris, Texoma Region Family Services Manager for the Association will present the workshop. The workshop is open to the public and suitable for adults of all ages. Participants are welcome to bring a brown bag to “lunch and learn” simultaneously. Give yourself the gift of knowledge about brain health! Call the Alzheimer’s Association Helpline (800-272-3900) today to register. For more information about the January 15 presentation of Maintain Your Brain, please contact Dianna Niemann-Harris at 903-416-1035 or Dianna.Niemann-Harris@alz.org.
