Bill Hurst, May Photographer of the Month for Friends of Hagerman NWR
Article
The photographer of the month for May, 2008, chosen by the Friends of Hagerman NWR is Bill Hurst. Mr. Hurst has an album of photographs taken at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge on display on the Friends’ website, wwwfriendsofhagerman.com, during this month. Hurst was born and raised in Southwest Arkansas, graduated from Lewisville High School and Southern State College. He taught science in public schools for 29 years and retired in 2000. Since that time he has taken a position with the Fannin County Special Education Cooperative teaching science and history. Hurst enjoys photography, fishing, and researching family history. He is a member of 14 historical and genealogical societies! Hurst’s father was the only merchant in town who sold film and cameras, so Bill learned how to load film and take pictures at an early age. He got his first camera over 50 years ago and has been taking pictures ever since. Hurst uses a Canon XTi single lens reflex camera, a Canon S3 IS point and shoot, and a Canon T2 35mm film camera. Most of his wildlife pictures are taken with a Canon 70-300mm IS lens or a Tamron 200-500mm lens. He is attempting to learn Photoshop CS3, and enjoys photographing animals, flowers, and landscapes. Each month the Friends feature an individual photographer, with an album of up to 13 photographs taken at the Refuge. Interested photographers may contact Sue Malnory at friendsofhagerman@gmail.com.
