Article
The Friends of Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge will hold SUPER SATURDAY from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., on Saturday, May 24, 2008. The day of free activities will begin with Wildflower Encore, led by Jessie Stephens, Sherman garden writer and Master Gardener. She will present an all new wildflower photo show of summer and fall bloomers, followed by a walk on the Refuge. Afternoon activities will include birding by chair, shore bird field trips, nature videos, come & go nature crafts for children, and from 3 – 5 p.m., sun gazing. The Astronomical Society of North Texas will have special safe filters for sun gazing, in order to view sunspots. At 5:30 p.m. there will be an astronomy talk by ASNT, and from 7 – 9 p.m., an evening of stargazing. Grilled hot dogs and fixings will be available, for a donation, at noon and 5 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and sunscreen and spend the day or an hour at the Refuge. In addition visitors to the Refuge are welcome to hike, bird, boat and fish on their own. See www.fws.gov/southwest/refuges/texas/hagerman/index.html for boating and fishing regulations. Super Saturday is open to the public. For more information on the event or other activities sponsored by the Friends of Hagerman, visit www.friendsofhagerman.com or call the Refuge, 903 786 2826.
