Now is the time, today is the day to begin your journey as a Champion for those with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias! Memory Walk Texoma 2008 is coming up on September 27, 2008. Now is the time for individuals, businesses and groups to establish teams and begin approaching others for support.
The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk brings together family, friends, caregivers and concerned community members who all want to make a difference Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $200 million to help those battling Alzheimer's disease. This year more than 200,000 people across the nation will be on the MOVE. Every 71 seconds someone in America develops Alzheimer's disease and it is currently the 7th leading cause of death in the United States! In the Texoma region, Cook-Fannin-Grayson Counties there are 5,059 people with Alzheimer's and the number is growing.
Your support as part of Memory Walk will help advance the information that the public receives about Alzheimer's disease and the need for early diagnosis. It will help us provide support to area families dealing with Alzheimer's disease. It will help fund research to find disease altering drugs, and ultimately a cure through the over all increase of awareness.
In our local office in Denison and throughout North Texas, the Greater Dallas Chapter is growing the services it provides to those suffering from Alzheimer's and those who have the enormous job of caring for those affected. The Chapter has offices in Collin, Denton, Ellis, Grayson and Navarro Counties, and hopes to open an office in Tyler this fiscal year.
The Hilltop Haven Community in Gunter will host Memory Walk Texoma on September 27, 2008. The one mile walk will include teams from Cooke, Fannin and Grayson counties in celebration of the lives of people with AD.
