Thanks to the generosity of Bella Fontana Spa in downtown Sherman, the Alzheimer's Association - Greater Dallas Chapter will offer a unique learning opportunity for paid professional care providers. The Professional Caregiver Class is Wednesday, August 13, 2008 in the Pat Nuckols Community Room of Bella Fontana Spa. The Spa is located at 101 East Jones, just a block off the square in downtown Sherman. This course is specifically designed for paid providers of services to persons with dementia, and includes a wealth of information about Alzheimer's Disease. There will also be multiple opportunities for care providers to share their experience with each other.
The course is from 9am to 3pm with a one hour break for lunch on your own. The course presents critical information for home health/hospice nurses and aides, sitters, nurse aides or companions who care for persons with any type of dementia.
"Paid caregivers currently caring for someone with Alzheimer's are encouraged to come to the workshop," said Dianna Niemann-Harris, Alzheimer's Association Family Services Manager. "We also welcome private duty caregivers or agency providers who are interested in serving those with dementia," Niemann-Harris continued.
Upon completion, participants are eligible to be paid caregivers under the Alzheimer's Association Respite Assistance program. This professional workshop will cover physical care, dealing with problem behaviors, ways to communicate effectively, and how to help insure the safety of a person who has dementia.
While the Alzheimer's Association provides free training for relatives of persons with Alzheimer's or related dementias, there is a nominal $25 fee for the professional care provider class. To insure adequate materials are available, pre-registration is required for participation. Class size is limited to 20 registrants on a first come basis. Register today for the August 13 Professional Care Provider workshop by calling 1-800-272-3900.
