The opening production of the Sherman Community Players’ new 2008-09 Season will be the third installment of the SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN series, a gospel musical that follows the lives of the Sanders Family Singers. The Players presented the first SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN in 2005, and it was one of their biggest successes. The following year they presented the sequel, THE SANDERS FAMILY CHRISTMAS, also playing to sold-out houses.
The eagerly-awaited final installment, SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN III finds the gospel-singing family regrouping after World War II, witnessing and telling funny stories and singing and playing great gospel tunes such as Uncloudy Day, I Love To Tell The Story, Shall We Gather By The River and many, many more.
Returning cast members will be KAREN SCHUTH (“I don’t sing…I sign!”), CHERIE ANDERSON, NANCY CASSADY, TRAVIS LYONS, HUGH MOODY, BENNY VINCENT, DONNIE WHITE, DOROTHY FOWLER and SUE SAPPENFIELD. New faces in the cast will be ROGER GREGORY-ALLEN, VICKI PENHALL, ROSANNA BUTLER, DEREK GEORGE, JOHNNY FLOWERS, JONATHAN SHAW and TOM BROTT. RON CASSADY and SCOTTIE JOHNSON will be directing the production.
SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN III will open October 3 and play through the 26th with performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Early group reservations can be made by calling Darlene Schweizer at 903-893-7652.
