An album of twelve photos, all shot in a single visit to Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, is featured this month on the Friends of Hagerman NWR website, www.friendsofhagerman.com. The Friends have named Joe Blackburn as October Photographer of the Month. Blackburn's pictures, taken in July, 2008, demonstrate the variety of interesting sights available to visitors to the Refuge.
Joe Blackburn is a native Texan, with an appreciation for nature and says he tries to capture as much of it digitally as possible. A photographer in varying degrees of passion since he was 12 years old, Blackburn has taken, developed, printed and sold pictures using box cameras through large format film cameras and now digital formats. Five years ago he converted to the digital format. Currently, he uses the 40D with 70-200 IS 2.8L lens for the wildlife shots. Canon has been the capture tool of choice since the 1980s. Blackburn is also involved in freelance work with custom applications for the consumer and commercial markets.
Photographers with pictures taken at Hagerman are welcome to inquire about submission, at friendsofhagerman@gmail.com.
