Caregiver Gathering in Collinsville December 6
Article
If you are providing care in your home or have a loved one with memory related problems in an area facility, this information is for YOU! On Saturday, December 6, 2008, come learn how a caregiver support group works and how one could help you. The Collinsville Church of Christ at 201 S. Walnut in Collinsville is the place and our time together is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be time to share your personal unique situation, learn about support groups and explore the possibility of a regular monthly group in Collinsville. Family and friends of persons with Alzheimer’s or a similar dementia are especially encouraged to attend. The Alzheimer's Association staff member for Cooke County, Dianna Niemann-Harris said, "It is exciting to consider starting a Caregiver Support Group in the Collinsville area! We have clients in much of the surrounding area who can benefit from gathering with other caregivers, plus there are many providing care we haven’t met yet." What makes a Collinsville area group unique is there are so many rural towns nearby like Whitesboro, Gainesville, Lake Kiowa and others. Support groups can provide an opportunity for family, friends, caregivers and others to meet regularly for mutual emotional support. Participants may also exchange coping skills with one another in matters related to Alzheimer's. A support group creates a safe, supportive community for developing problem solving skills. It can be an avenue of education and information. Support groups encourage participants to maintain their own physical and emotional health while seeing to needs of the one they care for. All Alzheimer's Association sponsored groups are facilitated by well trained individuals. Group leaders strive to identify the needs of group participants and assist in seeing those needs are met. Please come to the fellowship hall at Collinsville Church of Christ on Saturday, December 6 at 10 a.m. where you will be able to share, explore and learn how to support one another as caregivers. For more information about this gathering, to ask questions about Alzheimer's Association Programs and Services or to schedule a speaker on Alzheimer's please contact Family Services Manager Dianna Niemann-Harris at 903-416-1035 or Dianna.Niemann-Harris@alz.org or log online to www.AlzDallas.org.
