Pre-Filed Bills
Article
This week, I will continue talk about some of the bills that have been prefiled. As of this writing, 630 bills and constitutional amendments have been filed. House Bill 128 would require an applicant for any kind of occupational, business or professional license to provide proof of their eligibility to work in the United States. New or renewed licenses would not be issued to people who could not establish employment eligibility. Under the bill, a person could establish proof of eligibility in many different ways, including, but not limited to: presenting a United States passport; a Certificate of United States Citizenship; a Certificate of Naturalization; an unexpired foreign passport, with attached forms indicating unexpired employment authorization; a Permanent Resident Card or Alien Registration Receipt Card with photograph; and an unexpired Employment Authorization Card. House Bill 147 would prohibit homeowners' or neighborhood associations from banning the display of the United States flag by a property owner on the owner's property. Associations could pass restrictions on the size of the flag to be displayed. House Bill 159 would require school districts to provide 20 minutes per day of unstructured play time for elementary school students. This time would be in addition to the physical education requirements already in place. House Bill 209 would require that a residence homestead be appraised not more often than every two years. The appraised value of the homestead could increase no more than 10% per appraisal.
