Support groups can provide an opportunity for family, friends, caregivers and others to meet regularly for mutual emotional support. Participants may also exchange coping skills with one another in matters related to Alzheimer's. A support group creates a safe, supportive community for developing problem solving skills. It can be an avenue of education and information. Support groups encourage participants to maintain their own physical and emotional health while seeing to needs of the one they care for. All Alzheimer's Association sponsored groups are confidential and are facilitated by specifically trained individuals. Group leaders strive to identify the needs of participants and assist in seeing those needs are met.
