SCP HOLDS AUDITIONS FOR “BEST XMAS PAGEANT EVER”
Article
On Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m., the Sherman Community Players will be holding auditions for the second show in the new 2009-10 season—THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER. Based on the popular bestselling book by Barbara Robinson, this theatrical adaptation is a heartwarming and hilarious comedy and is one of the most widely-produced Christmas plays, second only to Dicken’s A CHRISTMAS CAROL. The comedy concerns the efforts of a mother who suddenly finds herself put in charge of the annual Christmas pageant and then finds herself forced to cast the leading roles with the Herdman siblings from “the other side of the tracks”, who are probably the meanest, nastiest and most inventively awful kids in history. Mayhem, mirth and warm, fuzzy feelings abound in this family Christmas classic. SCP managing director Ron Cassady will be directing the show which calls for a large cast of adults and children. The adult roles are for all ages, and children’s roles are for ages 6 to 14 years of age. The roles vary in size, ranging from small parts to leading roles. There will also be a children’s choir as part of the play, for children who enjoy singing. Cassady emphasizes that this show is a great opportunity for beginning actors to give community theatre a try. No experience is necessary. Auditions will be held in the Finley Theatre located at 500 N. Elm. Rehearsals will begin the first of November, and the show will run the first three weeks of December. There will be no rehearsals during the Thanksgiving holidays.
