On Monday and Tuesday evenings, October 18 and 19 at 7 p.m. the Sherman Community Players will hold tryouts for BEAUTIFUL STAR: AN APPALACHIAN NATIVITY. This newly acquired musical is set in the North Carolina mountains and presents the Christmas story as it comes to life in a small Appalachian church.
The Reverend Ledbetter and his family and members of his small congregation take audiences on a musical and storytelling journey from the creation of the world, to the birth of Jesus. The show is filled with down-home laughter and toe-tapping music.
The music is written by singer-songwriter Laurelyn Dosset and is a mixture of gospel, country, bluegrass and mountain music.
SCP director Ron Cassady and musical director Scottie Johnson are looking for actors, singers and musicians of all ages from 8 years of age to seniors. Auditioners should bring a prepared song of their choice to sing. Cassady is looking for new talent, so no experience is necessary.
BEAUTIFUL STAR is scheduled to open December 3 and play though the 19th. Rehearsals will begin the first week in November, and there will be no rehearsals during the Thanksgiving holidays.
Auditions will be held in the Finley Theatre at 500 N. Elm in Sherman. For further information contact Cassady at 903-818-2138.
