Never Too Late To Learn!
Article
Ever thought this? “I sure wish I would have kept up with those lessons. It would just be great to know how to play an instrument.” Nine times out of ten, children who take piano lessons as a child, only to quit after taking for a couple of years, never continue their music education. However, as an adult, this one decision either made by parents for the child or by the child himself, becomes one of the major regrets experienced as an adult. Why is this? We often do not recognize the benefits music has to offer us until reaching adulthood. Music mostly plays the role of sidekick to our list of desired activities as a child. It rarely is a source of education for children compared to the nineteenth century, for instance. However, studies indicate a much higher learning rate in children who are experiencing an education that combines the art of music. It has even been proven that students listening to classical music during the time taken to study for an exam place higher scores, on average, than that of other students who say, listen to today’s modern pop, rock, or the television, for that matter during their study time. The good news is: it is never too late to learn! The Sherman/Denison area offers many a fine private or group instructor where lessons can be obtained for less than you would probably imagine. While one of the common excuses involves finding time to practice, the real question is: Are there any real activities in your life that are teaching you and helping to make you a more well rounded individual? Watching sitcoms for three hours each evening does not fall into this category. Perhaps, your schedule is full with the caring for of others in your life. Consider this: Piano lessons have been found to reduce stress not add to it! Many think of their lesson and practice time as “alone” or “me” time. Some even view it as a therapy of sorts. We would like to attempt to answer all of your questions in an article like this, but obviously that would be impossible. One that can offer you quite a bit a detailed advice born from a wealth of training and experience is Julie Casey. Her Master’s degree in Classical Piano and Bachelor’s in Sacred Piano are combined with two years of teaching college courses. She is a member of the Music Teacher’s National Association and has taught an incredible range of students from early childhood development minded lessons to the older and wiser adults who are starting from scratch and couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket! She is available for private piano and private voice lessons and would love to assist you in your music education. She is an excellent theory teacher who makes available a variety of specialized lesson plans for those pursuing specific goals. Also, Julie offers her students the ability to compete in Music Guild.
