AUDITIONS HELD FOR JOHNNY CASH MUSICAL
Article
The Sherman Community Players will be opening the 2011-12 Season with the musical RING OF FIRE. Johnny Cash’s remarkable life story is showcased through his music, as singers and musicians bring to life some of the greatest songs of one of America’s most brilliant singer/songwriters. Songs include Daddy Sang Bass, I Walk the Line, Angel Band, If I Were A Carpenter, A Boy Named Sue, Folsom Blues and many more. According to director Ron Cassady, the show is not a stage adaptation of the hit movie I WALK THE LINE, but, instead, is a musical revue of over 30 Cash tunes with dialogue that weaves the music together. Cassady and musical director Ben Vincent are looking for an ensemble of men and women singers ranging in age from teenage to adult. They are also looking for country and rock musicians. Auditioners need to bring a prepared song to sing. A CD/tape player will be provided for accompaniment. Auditions will be held on Monday and Tuesday evenings, August 22 and 23 at 7 p.m in the Finley Theatre at 500 N. Elm in Sherman. The production is scheduled to open Sept. 30 and play through Oct. 16.
