House Passes Resolution in Support of Our Deployed Troops
Article
On January 21 as one of his first actions as a Member of the Texas House of Representatives, Rep. Larry Phillips signed on as a co-author of House Concurrent Resolution 26 offered by Rep. Diane White Delisi. HCR 26 wishes the military personnel based in Texas and all over the United States Godspeed, as they are deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and offers the House's prayers for their safe return. Between now and the end of the legislative session in May, the 78th Legislature will face many tough and oftentimes contentious issues. However, HCR 26 passed the House by a unanimous vote. "As I begin my legislative career," said Rep. Phillips, "I believe it is important that we let our fighting men and women know how much we in Texas support them in their defense of our nation's freedoms." In addition to HCR 26, there are number of proposed laws that would give aid and support to military personnel serving in Texas and to those Texans serving in the armed forces worldwide. Phillips stated, "Texas and the nation have been well-served during our history by our armed forces. It is important that we as elected officials give them the tools, support and ability to effectively do the jobs for which they have volunteered."
