AUSTIN - State Representative Larry Phillips recently announced that Texas high school students are invited to submit logo designs for the newly formed Office of Rural Community Affairs. Students can submit as many logo designs as they wish to the new agency, which was created to address rural issues across the state.
"As a member of the Rural Caucus, I encourage any high school student in District 62 to participate in this unique opportunity," said Phillips. "ORCA was created by the 77th Legislature to develop policy specifically addressing economic and quality of life issues affecting small and rural communities across Texas."
The office administers programs supporting rural health care, the Community Development Block Grant federal non-entitlement program and programs designed to improve the leadership capacity of rural community leaders. The office also coordinates and monitors the state's effort to improve the results and cost-effectiveness of programs affecting rural communities, as well as provide an annual evaluation of the condition of rural Texas communities.
The student who submits the winning logo will receive a $500 scholarship from the agency.
The deadline for all submissions is JULY 31, 2003.
