SHERMAN, TEXAS--Austin College senior Emily Record of College Station, Texas, will present a solo voice recital Saturday, April 13, at 3 p.m. in Craig Hall’s Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
A mezzo-soprano, Emily will perform 13 songs in four languages. Her first set, in Italian, will include pieces from Vivaldi and Bellini and an aria from the opera Xerxes by Handel. A second set in English will include pieces by Haydn. Mexican and Spanish folk songs make up the third set, and selections by Schubert complete the recital.
Emily is in her fifth semester of voice study and is a member of the College’s A Cappella Choir. Completing a major in music and a minor in art, Emily plans to attend graduate school at Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri, and to become a music therapist. “Music has always been such an integral part of my life,” she said “I love that I'm able to go into a field that not only incorporates my love of music but can truly change lives.”
