Much information, statistics, and data is now conveniently available on the internet. Many state agencies use websites to share information with Texans on a wide range of topics. In 2012 the Office of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts introduced a new online resource for Texas economic data, news and analysis. This website is www.TheTexasEconomy.org.
The Texas Economy features the latest news, trends and analysis on issues affecting the state’s economy. In addition to state revenue and spending data, there are more than a dozen economic indicators and analysis on a wide variety of topics including: fast-growing Texas industries and jobs, education and training, the effect of natural resources and the drought on the state economy, health care, and other issues that impact Texas businesses and taxpayers. The purpose of the site is to make this economic information and data available to Texas taxpayers through the use of informational graphics, video interviews, tables and snapshots of key data.
Visitors to the site can see yearly state trends in home sales, sales tax collections, building permits and more; view employment growth by industry; explore public education spending; or read about the successes of Texas communities and businesses.
Each week the site is updated with the Comptroller's Weekly Economic Outlook, which includes the most recent indicators on Jobs, Housing, Consumer Confidence, Taxes, and the Oil & Natural Gas industry.
It would be impossible to list all of the information available at www.thetexaseconomy.org in this column. I encourage you to log on to TheTexasEconomy.Org and explore the site.
