Article
SHERMAN, TEXAS—A pianist in the “grand manner,” artist Rosario Andino, who will perform a Community Series concert Saturday evening, September 27, in Sherman will offer a lecture that afternoon at 1 p.m. in Wynne Chapel at Austin College. She will speak about her experiences as a Cuban pianist, her many international tours, and her work with contemporary composers. The lecture is free and open to the public. A featured touring artist of the Mid-American Arts Alliance, Andino has won the Pittsburgh Society of Musical Arts Prize as well as the coveted Music Critics Circle Prize in Cuba. She annually tours Europe, Mexico, and the United States and has recorded for many television and radio stations around the world. Her concerto and solo repertoire includes many of the standard works for piano and orchestra, as well as such rarities as works by Arensky, and major and some of the lesser-known works from the baroque, classical, romantic, and modern eras. This master-artist has said she believes that music can touch, uplift, mesmerize, and exhilarate any audience anywhere. Austin College, a private national liberal arts college located north of Dallas in Sherman, Texas, has earned a reputation for excellence in academic preparation, international study, pre-professional foundations, leadership development, committed faculty, and hands-on, adventurous learning opportunities.
