Preston Trail Chapter NSDAR participated in Pottsboro’s Frontier Day on Saturday, September 27, 2014. The chapter was represented in the Frontier Day Parade and manned a booth at Friendship Park. We handed out American flags, the Pledge of Allegiance, the US Constitution, the Preamble to the Constitution and many other NSDAR booklets such as Today’s DAR. The chapter gained 15 new prospective members interested in researching their lineage.
Frontier Day is Pottsboro’s way of remembering the cattle drives beginning in the 1850’s and others traveling the Shawnee Trail which spanned from the Red River into Dallas. Settlers who decided to stay versus pass through formed the community of Pottsboro. The cattle drives ceased in the 1870’s, but the history will never be lost and the annual celebration in Pottsboro continues.
