The Preston Trail Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution held its monthly meeting October 16th at Georgetown Baptist Church in Pottsboro, Texas.
Regent Lisa Lettie called the meeting to order and recognized guests including Nancy Ross the program speaker. Ms. Ross is the Regent of the General Bernardo de Galvez Chapter in Allen. Her topic was “Paul Revere and His Wives”.
Preston Trail is committed to promoting literacy. We will be celebrating National Family Literacy Day on November 1st. The Texas DAR Literacy Promotion theme for 2014 is “Open the Treasure Chest of Literacy.” To that end, an American historical book is being donated in Ms. Ross’ honor to the Pottsboro Area Public Library.
During a business meeting, reports were heard as follows: Elizabeth Sciortino - American Heritage; Margaret Alverson – Treasurer; Karolyn Burton – Corresponding Secretary and Jonnie Templeton – Lineage Research.
November meeting will be held Thursday, November 20th at Georgetown Baptist Church; 5:00pm meal ($10) and 6:00pm meeting. Speaker will be John Holcomb of Vietnam Veterans Association. Preston Trail Chapter will be commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.
DAR was founded in 1890. It is a non-profit, non-political women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and promoting better education for children. Any woman age 18 or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution or a family member who supplied aid to the Continental Army is eligible for membership.
