SHERMAN, TEXAS—Austin College’s Kappa Gamma Chi sorority will hold its 24th annual 5K ’Roo Run and Joey Walk Saturday, November 1, with proceeds supporting "Women Rock!", a Sherman organization that provides education to encourage early breast cancer detection. Cost for the race is $15 per person or $10 each for a team of three or more. Participants receive a t-shirt and are included in a raffle after the run.
Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. in front of Ida Green Communication Center, and the run begins at 8:15 a.m., with the final wave of runners departing at 9:15 a.m. At completion of the race, approximately 9:45, the sorority women will present prizes from area vendors. Additional community sponsors are welcome and encouraged; contact Cathryn Yarbrough, Austin College sophomore, at 361-332-8654 or kapparoorun@gmail.com.
As service chair of the sorority, Cathryn said she has established two main goals for herself: “to ignite a passion for service not only within my group, but on campus and throughout the community and to ensure that “Women Rock!” receives support, passion, and excitement, not only from those volunteering- but from those running.” Early detection of breast cancer can mean a longer life, she continued. “As a smaller local organization, Women Rock is very important to our community, and having the opportunity of reciprocating the enrichment of life they have given so many women, means the world not only to their families, but to our community.”
Online registration is available at kapparoorun.tumblr.com and a Goennounce link, www.goennounce.com/missions/view/id/2916, provides additional information.
