Preston Trail NSDAR is a Commemorative Partner with the U. S. Vietnam War Commemoration Committee with the primary mission of thanking and honoring Vietnam veterans and their families.
This is a national commemoration and follows in the footsteps of the World War II and Korean War 50th and 60th anniversary commemorations.
Preston Trail Chapters’ mission is to assist a grateful nation in thanking and honoring the veterans of the Vietnam War and their families. Vietnam veterans are the centerpiece of events conducted under the auspices of the Commemoration. The Vietnam generation of veterans want to ensure the treatment of our current service members receive is very different than what many of them experience when they served.
Daughters participated in a luncheon commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War on November 8th in Fort Worth Texas. The honored guest speaker was Colonel Jerry Curtis, United States Air Force and former Vietnamese prisoner of war. Attending were Lisa Lettie, Regent; Barbara Mize, Angela Lundy and her son Jeffery Lundy.
Thirty chapter Regents from the area opened the luncheon by entering the venue carrying the Vietnam War commemorative flag. Members of the Fort Worth Sons of the American Revolution performed the posting of the colors.
Locally, daughters of Preston Trail attended a wreath laying at Sherman’s Fairview Park Veterans Monument in honor of those who have died defending our county.
Opening Doors for Disabled Veterans is an assistance program established by Preston Trail NSDAR. The program is designed to assist disabled veterans living in Grayson County with accessibility issues in their homes. Specifically, the expenses eligible for consideration are widening of bathroom doorways for wheelchair access, replacement of toilet to an accessible one, hand rails, and ramp to front door of home with handrails meeting the national standard (ADA specifications).
The program to date has assisted a World War II Purple Heart and Gold Star recipient and a Vietnam veteran, both of Sherman.
