Preston Trail NSDAR Donates to VFW Post #2772
Article
The Preston Trail Chapter NSDAR donated two motorized mobility scooters to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2772. The post in turn provides free wheelchairs and mobility units to veterans in need. DAR members support countless patriotic projects and endeavors, many of which honor the brave men and women who serve or have served our country in the U.S. Armed Forces, and all of which are beneficial. Opening Doors for Disabled Veterans is an assistance program offered by Preston Trail NSDAR to all disabled veterans in Grayson County. The program is designed to assist veterans with widening interior doorways to an accessible width of 36” allowing for a wheelchair or walker. Also included in the program parameters are installing walk in showers, hand grips, and accessible toilets where needed. Applications for assistance can be found at the VFW #2772 in Sherman and at the Grayson County Veteran Services Office, Jimmy Petty. Or you may request an application from Preston Trail NSDAR at lisalettie@yahoo.com. The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to preserve the memory and spirit of those who contributed to winning American independence. The objectives of the DAR are to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership. With more than 177,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world's largest and most active service organizations. Encompassing an entire downtown city block, DAR National Headquarters houses one of the nation’s premier genealogical libraries, one of the foremost collections of pre-industrial American decorative arts, Washington, D.C.’s largest concert hall, and an extensive collection of early American manuscripts and imprints.
