The Sherman Community Players are pleased to announce the opening of the comedic farce “The Importance of Being Earnest” a trivial comedy for serious people written by Oscar Wilde. Set to open April 1st, Earnest has been in rehearsal at the Historic Finley Theater since mid February. Earnest follows the lives of two protagonists, John Worthing(Matt Maxwell) and Algernon Moncrief (John Broyles), two confirmed bachelor friends whom have secret identities or as Algernon puts it “a bun bury”, “bunbury” is a word Wilde invented for the script, and it means essentially to lead a double life. But like all great farces the double life- inevitably ends when the two lives are forced to intersect and hilarity ensues. “It’s been another rewarding experience, working on such a taut and clever piece of literature…” explains artistic director of SCP Anthony Nelson. “There is so much word play in the script that we’ve had a blast wringing out every little joke and nuance in the writing.” Rounding out the cast are some veterans of the Finley Stage and also some new fresh faces. The cast includes, Matt Maxwell, John Broyles, Darrah Dunn, Carolyn Montgomery, David Gonier, Jeannie Lyons, Natalie Johnson, Amanda Brooke Edwards, and Scott Horsley.
Tickets go on sale beginning Wednesday March 30th to the general public and season members can begin reserving their Tickets Monday March 28th. Thursday March 31st is the $5 preview night and the official opening is Friday night April 1st. “I love the fact that this show is opening on April Fools Day, I just hope people don’t get upset if they show up to the theatre and end up finding the doors locked” chuckles Nelson.
