David Atkins announces candidacy for Pottsboro ISD School Board
Article
David Atkins has announced his candidacy for a place on the Pottsboro Independent School District Board of Education. “The primary reason I chose to run for the Pottsboro School Board is to insure the on-going success of and to continue with the enhancement of educational programs for the students,” said Atkins. “One of my main goals will be to help create a stronger support system for the teachers and staff in the Pottsboro school system, which will in turn benefit the children. A quality educational experience is one of the underlying principles of ‘the American Dream’. Every student deserves a high quality education, like they obtain from Pottsboro ISD. Insuring the success of our education system insures the future success of our students.” Atkins presently serves on the Pottsboro Youth Association Board, and is involved with the Watchdog and Koalaty student programs. Atkins has been a volunteer with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), assisting with abused and neglected children. He has also volunteered with Junior Achievement, which teaches students how lessons they are learning in the classroom directly tie to the world of business. Atkins served in the United States Air force serving a three-year tour at Clark Air Force Base in the Republic of the Philippines and three years at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. While in the Air Force Atkins attended the Community College of the Air Force in a continuing education program in Business Administration. Atkins is the Regional Operations Manager for UNICCO Services Company with properties in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, East Texas, Louisiana and California. Through Atkins’ efforts, UNICCO Services Company has been recognized as a sponsor in several activities in the Pottsboro School District and in the community as a whole. “The Pottsboro ISD has held and continues to hold a prominent place in my family,” said Atkins. “I attended all twelve years of schooling at Pottsboro ISD, graduating in 1977. My wife Tanya currently serves on the PTA Board. My two oldest sons, Michael and Randy, both graduated from PHS. My nephew, Nathan Taylor, who lives with our family, is currently in the 5th grade, and sons Zackery and Nickolus are in the 2nd grade in Pottsboro. Pottsboro is a wonderful place to raise a family, and I believe we have one of the best school systems in North Texas. I will be pleased to work with other members of our community to help give back to the school system that has played such a large part in our lives.”
