SHERMAN - A Reading Is Fundamental program will be held on October 12 at the Pottsboro High School auditorium from 9:30am to 11:00am. The program is sponsored by Region 10 Head Start and will feature a reading by State Representative Ron Clark.
Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) is the nation’s oldest and largest non-profit children’s literacy organization, currently serving 3.8 million young people. RIF promotes early literacy and builds enthusiastic readers by giving them access to books they choose and keep, involving them in creative and motivational activities that promote reading and involves parents and community volunteers in these activities.
Children ages three and four from the Head Start classes in Sherman, Denison, Pottsboro and Whitesboro will participate in the activity which will allow each child to choose one of three books being offered. Representative Clark will read an excerpt from one of the books to encourage and motivate these children to learn to read early and to be successful readers.
The books, provided by way of a federal grant, are being distributed in three phases. The October 12 activity is the second of the three distributions.
Parents of children in Head Start and parents interested in the program are encouraged to attend the event.
