Clark Sworn in as State Representative
Article
AUSTIN - Ron Clark was administered the Oath of Office as State Representative of District 62 to kick-off the opening day of the 77th Legislative Session on January 9. Clark ran unopposed in the November election to win the seat. “I am pleased to have the opportunity to represent the citizens of District 62 once again in the Legislature,” said Clark. “This session will be unique since this is a redistricting year.” Much of the session will be dedicated to the issue of redistricting. The Texas Legislature has the responsibility of redrawing district lines for House of Representatives, Senate, State Board of Education and Congressional seats every ten years corresponding with the decennial U.S. Census. Representative Clark is a member of the Republican Caucus Redistricting Committee. House committee assignments will be announced by the Speaker of the House within the month and committees will begin meeting soon after the announcement. One of the Session’s issues is teacher health insurance. Representative Clark is joint-author of House Bill 12 to establish a statewide health insurance program for active and retired teachers that would provide coverage equal to that provided for state employees. Representative Clark stated, “because of redistricting, it may be difficult to pass legislation this session other than the budget and bills dealing with clean air and water quality.” Clark added, “Nevertheless, I am joint authoring the teacher health bill because I believe it is an important step in helping to retain and attract teachers in Texas.” State Representative Ron Clark P.O.
