I'm not going to lie to you, I was dreading the whole idea of having to do an internship. I understand the need to be sure that your chosen major is a field that you really comprehend and like before you walk across the stage, but 120 hours of mandatory free labor--COME ON!! That's a lot of hours spent doing work for someone else, which I knew would not be easy. But, what I didn't ever expect was to enjoy it at all.
I am by nature a people person, and my internship had me sitting at a computer all day messing with the internet and the inside dealings of a company based in the internet--something I never thought I would touch. While some days were filled with lots of time-consuming work, there were also days when I laughed at/with my coworkers.
My major is advertising/public relations, so I was thrilled at the prospect of meeting important people in this community, which my job also included, at times. But, I also learned that it's not always easy to get in the game and stick your hand out first and initiate the conversation with people who in the whole scheme of things seem above you.
In the end, I really am taking away a lot from this internship experience. Along with more workplace oriented knowledge and highly desireable experience, I also have learned to respect talents that can't be taught or learned and to remember that a degree doesn't guarantee happiness in life or work, only you can make that happen for yourself.
